A very scarce set of John Coney's engravings of prominent ecclesiastical buildings, profusely illustrated throughout. Complete in two volumes. A very scarce work. A collection of architectural engravings by John Coney. The work focuses on the architectural details of large ecclesiastical structures. Coney was an architectural engraver, who published his first work, a collection of views of Warwick Castle, in 1815. His engravings all show minute detail in a very neat manner. A wonderful collection of more than 200 etchings and plans. Captures many Cathedrals, Churches and Abbeys before the Victorian restorers and, (in the case of the ruins) The Ministry of Works became involved. One of the most interesting snapshots of the state of the nation's ecclesiastical architecture I have seen, in between John Britton at the start of the nineteenth century and The Builder's Survey of English and Welsh Cathedrals at the end of the century. Books in very good condition in my opinion for age and size!!! Externally binding strong, wear around edges and corners with some peeling of leather. Inside light foxing especially on margins but overall illustrations very good,some double page plates have some stains on interior- see photos. Complete. One of only three copies selling worlwide!!!! Very heavy books,over 10 kilos
