It features a stunning nashiji (pear-skin) finish, adorned with gold maki-e depicting the prestigious Mitsuba Aoi crest and elegant arabesque patterns. The Mitsuba Aoi crest, famously adopted by Tokugawa Ieyasu, was strictly regulated and reserved for the Tokugawa family, suggesting that this stand may have belonged to a member of the Tokugawa lineage. The arabesque design, intricately drawn in gold maki-e, symbolizes longevity and continuous growth. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to create intricate designs. Nashiji employs a similar method, using gold or silver flecks to give the surface a shimmering depth, resembling the texture of pear skin. Due to its age, there are small chips in the lacquer and wood, slight discoloration, and a repair with adhesive on one of the legs at the back of the base.
