Byôbu 屏風 (paravent) - Soie, Feuille d'or, Bois laqué - Japon - Période Meiji (1868–1912)
A spectacular low six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) displaying a tranquil Rinpa School-style painting on gold leaf, capturing a serene spring landscape along the bank of a meandering river.
A vibrant Golden pheasant 錦鶏 (kinkei) perches gracefully on the long, curving branch of a blooming white Japanese apricot tree. At the base, its female partner scurries nearby, among young bamboo shoots and a natural rock formation.
Period: Japan – The painting dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912).
Rendered in watercolour and ink on gold leaf. The screen is bordered by two brocade silk trims – a slender dark brown-golden one and a broader light golden one, and is encased in a black lacquered wooden frame with protective metal hardware.
The protective frame was expertly and expensively refurbished at a later (more recent) date in Japan. A highly skilled craftsmanship that requires a lot of expertise and knowledge.
Dimensions:
Total width: 268.1 cm (2 x 46 cm and 4 x 44.1 cm); Height: 91.8 cm.
In a very good restored condition. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art.
When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
