Very impressive large gilt sterling silver cigarette case made by Asprey of London and dating to the Art Deco period. Rectangular form with a bevelled chamfer body that is engraved all over with an engine-turned design; the interior of the case is sumptuously gold-plated.
Very unusual slide-open mechanism keeps this case securely closed, no matter how much it moves around.
Due to the size of the case the rubber strap is divided in the middle with a bracket that creates two compartments - for cigarettes and business cards for example, or two different types of cigarettes.
The applied gold initials are secured with pins to the lid and can be removed and easily replaced with someone else's initials. At over 200g of heavy gauge silver, this would make a wonderful present for someone!
