Russian, Hand Painted Icon of Saint George the Victorious, Metal Fitting.
The icon is in good condition for its age.
The base is wooden. The icon itself is hand drawn.
The metal fittings are embossed with floral motifs.
At the four ends you can see the four evangelists - Luke, Matthew, John and Mark.
The icon is from the 20th century.
There are cracks in the paint, normal for the age of the icon.
Saint Great Martyr George the Victorious is one of the most revered saints, a martyr for Christ's faith. He is revered by both Eastern and Western Christian churches. He was a soldier in the Roman Empire.
In Cappadocia, George received the military title of tribune only at the age of 20, after proving himself as a general.
On the icons of St. George the Victorious is always depicted on horseback, and at his feet lies the llama he killed.
