Iron Maiden's self-titled debut album, Iron Maiden, was released on April 14, 1980. It marked the beginning of the band's iconic career and the rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement. The album is known for its raw, energetic sound and features Paul Di'Anno on vocals, before Bruce Dickinson joined the band.
Some standout tracks from the album include:
"Prowler"
"Running Free"
"Phantom of the Opera"
"Iron Maiden"
The debut album has a punk-influenced edge and introduced the world to Iron Maiden's galloping riffs, dual guitar harmonies (courtesy of Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton), and Steve Harris' intricate bass lines. The album cover also introduced the world to Eddie, their iconic mascot, designed by artist Derek Riggs.
Street date in Japan was June 21, 1980.
