Voir la traductionUne grande pendule Boulle avec des dragons - PAS DE PRIX DE RESERVE - Japy Freres - Bois, Laiton gravé et fausse écaille de tortue - 1855-1877 - Horloge de table / de commode
Nº 88865735
A big (height - 52 cm!) French Boulle mantel clock with dragons in virtually perfect condition. France, Napoleon III period (1848-1870), mid 19th century. Violin-shaped case decorated with marquetry - engraved brass foliage on the background of dark faux tortoiseshell, with rich garniture of gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts. Very rare model in amazing condition!
Rococo style wooden case decorated with marquetry - precisely cut and engraved brass foliage on the background of dark (black/brown) tortoiseshell, with rich garniture of gilt bronze finely chiseled mounts, to include two dragons in lower part and a large finial depicting a sitting boy on top, all supported on four legs. Front door of violin shape, glassed, made of gilt bronze with relief depicting two figures of Amors in lower part. Back door made of wood with inlaid decor to the interior. Inside case "floor" with inlays of checkered and floral pattern.
Back-door with old clock-master's note: SD(?)II 55g / SB 1904. 'SB' - most probably clock-master's initials; 1904 - year the movement was overhauled.
Big dial of gilt bronze with baroque-style relief decor depicting a bust of King Louis XVI. Twelve white enamel cartouches with blue Roman numerals for hours and twelve smaller cartouches with black Arabic numerals for minutes (each five). Blue-oxidized iron hands. The dial is protected by a door with glass in gilt bronze frame.
French (Parisian) movement of a very good technical quality, stamped with partially illegible Japy Freres mark; readable part: JAPY FRERE[S] / G[ran]de ME[daille], what can precisely date the movement and clock. Japy Freres received Grande Medaille d’Honneur (during 'Expo Universelle' in Paris) twice: in 1855 and 1867. As manufacturer could use the award for ten years only, the movement was for sure made after 1855 and before 1877. Other marks on the back-plate: serial number - 6134, pendulum parameters - 6 / 4, unrecognized mark and number 3426. 34 is repeated on the front-plate. The clock comes with the winding key, pendulum and key for the front door.
Dimensions: height - 52 cm; width - c. 33 cm; depth - 14,3 cm.
Conditions report: case in excellent condition, no missing nor uplifted inlays, minimal traces of old restorations, minor marks and scratches possible. Gilt bronze mounts complete, very clean, gold layer in very good condition with wear in places only. Dial in excellent condition. Movement in working order, recently overhauled by a professional clock-master. Check pictures for details.

Friendly communication. The listing was overly optimistic in terms of age and authenticity of the item in my opinion.

Prachtige klok maar deze was op het verkeerde adres toegekomen , gelukkig heeft deze persoon zo eerlijk geweest om deze op het juiste adres te brengen. De klok was heel goed verpakt waarvoor men dank.
Professional double box packaging to avoid breakages.
