A unusual Ming dynasty Ko-Sometsuke kraak charger decorated with a rock covered in flowers with two butterflies fluttering above. The rim is decorated with typical kraak-ware cartouches containing flowers alternating with butterflies. The backside is decorated with the typical kraak-ware cartouches containing stylized Buddhist emblems, like the conch shell.

Butterflies have long been appreciated in Chinese culture as symbols of love, freedom, romance, and beauty. This image of two butterflies lingering over flowers often suggests the felicitous union between a male and a female as women are often likened to blossoms.

A rare and unusual depicting of butterflies on kraak-ware with lots of negative space.

The charger comes in a inscribed tomobako collectors box. We could decipher part of the inscription bearing the date: 弘化二年 (Kōka 2-nen) which would be 1845.

Dimensions: W37,5 x H6,9 cm

Condition:
A re-stuck shard with staples, also two hairlines fixated with staples. The charger also has the usual rimfritting associated with kraak-ware and a somewhat yellowed glaze.

Checked with strong UV light for defects.

Shipping method: The item is securely packed and shipped with insurance WITHOUT stand or doll house vase.

Parfait, mais j'aurais aimé avoir un coffret d'emballage pour cette belle théière. Je m'interroge sur la véritable datation de cette théière. quel est le thé qui a été utilisé avec cette théière ?
