A nice bronze Luduan shaped censer from the early Qing dynasty 17th/18th century. The head is pointed upwards and emits smoke if incense is burned in it's body.
Luduan (甪端) is a legendary Chinese auspicious creature. It has the head of a lion, the horn of a rhino, the body of a dragon, the paws of a bear, the scales of a fish, and the tail of an ox, It can travel 18,000 li (9000 km or 5500 mi) in a single day and speaks all world languages. It appears during the enlightened rule
PROVENANCE:
Comes from a private Japense collection, comes with a nice tomobako wooden collectors box.

Dimensions Height 17.5cm Width 11cm Depth 7.5cm Weight 555g
Condition: Horn has been re-attached, tail is a little wobbly and the hinge-pin is broken with one half missing.
