和敬静寂 Wakei Seijaku
It is said that the heart of all tea is contained in these four characters 「和 Wa」 harmony, 「敬 Kei」 respect, 「清 Sei」 tranquility, 「寂 jaku」 tranquility.
”和” means to be open-minded and friendly with each other.
”敬” means to respect each other.
”清” means to be pure and clean, not just visibly pure, but also pure in heart.
”寂” means a mind that is unperturbed at all times.
It means to get along with everyone, to value harmony in everything, to respect each other, and to be truly pure in all things, so that one can attain a peaceful and unperturbed mind at any time.
This is what it means.
