2020 Ferreira - Douro Late Bottled Vintage Port - 6 Bouteilles (0,75 L)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2020 Ferreira Late Bottled Vintage Port 6 x 0.75L 6 Bottles Port Wine DESCRIPTION Sogrape is Portugal's leading wine company, with an unparalleled presence, top brands and exceptional vineyards in the country’s main wine-growing regions: Vinho Verde, Douro/Porto, Dão, Bairrada, Bucelas and the Alentejo. Sogrape combines its in-house production with the purchasing of grapes from thousands of growers in a collective effort which nurtures – and brings to the world – the very best in Portuguese wines. Ferreira was founded in 1751, by the Ferreira family of Régua, a producer and trader of Port Wines, and it is the only Port Wine company that has always been in Portuguese hands. It grew significantly in the 18th century and invested primarily in high quality wines, buying and cultivating some of the main wine estates in the Douro. This impressive work was continued in the 19th century by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a direct descendent of the Ferreira family. Under her guidance, Ferreira reached its peak and continued to invest in the newest and best wines, increasingly efficient production methods and the careful ageing of wines and maintenance of older wine stocks. Since the beginning of the 19th century (ca 1825), all these wines are aged in Vila Nova de Gaia. Nowadays, Ferreira is the main national Port Wine brand and a symbol of quality, tradition and knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation for more than 270 years. It is owned by Sogrape, a Portuguese family business with a long tradition in the production and commercialisation of quality wines and the creator of the world famous “Mateus Rosé”. WINEMAKER: Luís Sottomayor. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 92 Points, International Wine Challenge (2019 Vintage) 93 Points, Decanter World Wine Awards (2017 Vintage) 92 Points, Wine Spectator (2017 Vintage) 17 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas (2017 Vintage) 91 Points, Wine & Spirits Magazine (2016 Vintage) 95-96 Points, VertdeVin (2014 Vintage) 90 Points, Meininger (2014 Vintage) 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast (2012 Vintage) Gold Medal, Mundus Vini (2012 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Francesa (42%), Touriga Nacional (35%), Tinta Roriz (20%) & Tinto Cão (3%). VINIFICATION Grapes selected from the plots of Quintas do Porto and Caêdo, as well as from some long-term partner growers. It is vinified at the Quinta do Seixo winery, using traditional Port Wine technology, in granite lagares with foot treading and controlled temperature, to extract the compounds that contribute to the wine's color, aroma, and flavor. After the harvest, the wine remains in the Douro. It is transported to Vila Nova de Gaia the following spring, entering the usual aging process in oak casks. During this period, it is frequently racked, analyzed, and tasted to monitor its evolution. The final blend is made after selecting wines that, due to their characteristics, reach the level of the Ferreira LBV style. TASTING NOTES Deep ruby color. Intense and complex aroma, with notes of red fruits, black fruits, shrubbery, and balsamic hints of cedar and resin. On the palate, it has good volume, lively tannins, balanced acidity, red fruits, and spices, with a very long and balanced finish. SERVING Ideal for pairing with cheeses and desserts rich in chocolate, fresh fruits, or red and wild berry tarts. When young. serve directly from the original bottle. Sediment forms with age and wine may need decanting after 7-8 years of age (in this case, keep bottle upright for 24 hours). Recommended temperature: 16ºC to 18ºC. Ideally drink within 4 or 5 days.
