This Meiji period hand-carved wooden statue represents Amitābha Buddha, also known as Amitāyus or the Buddha of Infinite Light, standing in a gesture of teaching (vitarka mudra). The standing posture conveys his readiness to respond instantly to the suffering of sentient beings.

The statue's raised hand forming the vitarka mudra, traditionally symbolizes the teaching of the Buddha and the spread of his wisdom, similar to the turning of a wheel. It’s a powerful representation of the Buddha's compassion and commitment to spreading his teachings far and wide.

Although most of the original gold leaf has worn away, you can still see traces, adding to the statue’s historical character. The statue also exhibits signs of age, including wear, chips, discoloration, and damage to the metal halo, most of which is missing. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of its condition.

Dimensions: approx. H 23.5 cm W 8.5 cm D 8.5 cm
