2019 Copel Wines. Pauillac - Bordeaux - 3 Bouteilles (0,75 L)
The concept of negociant-éleveur is very widespread in Burgundy (its best example being Lucien Lemoine) enabling winemaker to produce from the finest terroirs without necessarily owning the vineyards.
This is not the case at all in Bordeaux. If you wish to buy the very best Grand Cru classé you have to pay the price fixed by the Chateau to its distributors.
There is now one guy who has managed to bypass this Bordeaux system, producing on 1er Grand Cru classé quality level at very reasonable prices, much lower than the hundreds of euros the Chateaux expect for their top wines.
He has built along years privileged relationships with vinyards owners and is allowed to farm these and produce his own wines.
And which wines:
His Saint Emilion Grand Cru is made from vinyards located on the hill called Cheval Blanc west and neighboring the Chateau Cheval Blanc
His Sauternes is made from vinyards Neighbouring Chateau d'yquem!!!
His Pomerol is made from vinyards neighbouring Chateau Petrus!!!
Results are simple:
-amazing critic scores
-best restaurants (among which many Michelin stars) and wine shops across Europe purchase from him.
P.S: this is a true revolution in the Bordeaux world and I am proud to have become his partner
