Âge du fer Bronze Figurine de cheval (Sans Prix de Réserve)
A fine bronze stylised quadruped figurine, probably a horse, featuring a thin body, straight legs and a short tail. The face displays large, circular, eyes, rounded ears and a triangular-shaped skull. There is a collar-like element around the neck of the animal, possibly a harness. A short protrusion extends upwards from the animal's back; this could be a fragment of a rider, now missing.
Earthly encrustations to the surface.
Animals are a recurring motif in iron age art and metalwork. The prevalence and intricacy of horse depictions, as well as horse equipment, in iron age bronzes implies a great significance of the animal in the culture. The manufacturers of the these bronzes, though unknown, are widely understood to have been a nomadic people, and horses would have played a crucial role in almost every aspect of life, including transport, warfare, agriculture and religion.
