DESCRIPTION Eto Series fine bronze statue ,made by Saegusa Sōtarō 三枝惣太郎(1911~2006) Size: Snake 7.5 x 3 x 12.5 cm Monkey 4.5 x 3 x 9.5 cm Dragon 6 x 2 x 6 cm Good condition. Artist: Sculptor Sōtarō Saegusa (1911–2006) was born on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture and graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1935. While serving as a ceramics instructor at the Yokkaichi City School of Commerce and Industry in Mie Prefecture, he actively participated in exhibitions such as the Nitten and the Shin-Kōzōsha Exhibition. From 1970, he served as an assistant professor and professor at Nagoya University of Arts. Around 1982, he moved to Ichinomiya and played a leading role in promoting the arts in Ichinomiya City, including serving as a judge for the Ichinomiya City Art Exhibition. Sōtarō Saegusa primarily identified himself as a sculptor, considering painting a hobby, but his affiliation with the painting division of the Shin-Kōzōsha from an early time and the numerous paintings he left behind demonstrate his sculptural high compositional skills.
