PROFESSIONAL RATINGS 100/100 Robert Parker The most complete of all the wines I tasted was the 2021 Rumbo al Norte, from grapes picked the 17th of October, the same exact date as when they picked the 2018, very late. It's from their latest harvest ever, as they didn't start picking until the end of September! The nose encapsulates the character of Villanueva de Ávila with elegance, complexity and floral notes. It's bright and light, with energy and power but in the shape of a ballet dancer, gracious and energetic and with no fat at all. It has a very sharp palate, with a strong mineral sensation, with depth and pungent flavors that give it a lot of length. It's another stunning Rumbo al Norte, one of the most beautiful vineyards I know, a place with a special energy where you feel it has to make great wine. 1,333 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Sales are not limited to specifc countries or regions. However, the purchaser is responsible for checking if receiving wine is allowed when shipping from the Netherlands. Shipment will be made in a polystyrene wine packaging including full insurance. The wine will be removed from the OWC prior to shipment to make sure both the wine and OWC will be transported safely. Deviations from this can be requested but are for the risk of the receiver. WINE DESCRIPTION Rumbo al norte is the jewel in the crown of Comando G. It comes from a small 0.3 hectare plot in the village of navarrevisca (ávila), with 60-year-old vines at an altitude of 1,150 meters above sea level. The planting frame is so narrow that not even a horse can enter the upper part of the vineyard and huge stones are interspersed between the vines. One of the finest Grenache in the world, with a delicate, elegant and mineral aroma and colour, sppecial wine and very hard to get hold of. COMANDO G Comando G Viticultores was founded by Daniel Gómez Landi and Fernando Garcia. Daniel and Fernando met in 2005 when studying viticulture and enology at the University of Madrid. They were both involved in different wine projects by then, but as a result of their friendship, philosophy of work and common interest about wine they soon decided to start a project together. “Comando G was born in 2008 with the goal to make wines that reflect the place, the landscape and the identity of our vineyards”. In other words – “Terroir”. They decided to make and classify their wines according to the Burgundy system of Village, 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines. And the sole reason to defy this status is the vineyard. The vehicles used to achieving this goal were the extremely old Garnacha (Granache) vineyards common to the high altitude of the Gredos mountains of central Spain. And the “role model” they choose – Chateau Rayas, arguably the best producer of 100% Granache based wines in the world. The work in the cellar is traditional and handcrafted with minimal intervention. 100% whole clusters are used, followed by slow maceration, fermentation in open oak vats and elevage in various size used oak barrels, demi-muids and foudres.
