Ca. 664 - 30 BC A beautiful resin encased papyrus with demotic inscriptions in black ink on the front, made into a stunning talking-piece one-of-a-kind necklace featuring silver 925 stamped 18inch chain and mounting.
For centuries, papyrus was the principal writing material in the Classical and Mediterranean world, having supplanted clay tablets. Typically, papyrus scrolls were crafted from reeds in rolls measuring up to 100 feet long and 7 to 15 inches in width Size: 230mm x 180mm; Weight: 565g Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s in London; previously in 1970s European collection.
