This beautiful hand colored botanical plates are from a book on British wild flowers illustrated by John Sowerby. This book plate being from an edition published in 1914. These plates were all hand finished in colour.
John E. Sowerby was an English botanist and illustrator, known for his contributions to botanical illustration during the 19th century. He was the son of James Sowerby, a renowned naturalist and illustrator, and he followed in his father's footsteps, continuing the family tradition of producing high-quality botanical illustrations.
