A historic winery, more than 150 years old, that has become a myth, an icon recognized throughout the world thanks to the enormous quality of its wines. Vega Sicilia Único is a legendary wine. One of those wines that any fan wants to try, at least once in their life. A limited production wine that is only made in the best vintages. It is of the Tinto Fino variety, with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from the oldest vineyards on the property of the Valbuena de Duero winery, a farm on the banks of the Duero River with calcareous and alluvial soils. The influence of a continental climate with Atlantic influence is low, with little rainfall concentrated in autumn and spring and hot summers, with lots of sun. Vega Sicilia is characterized by the maximum care of all the details in the preparation. The work begins in the vineyard. Green pruning is done to eliminate clusters and thus limit the production of each strain, obtaining grapes with a lot of concentration. The harvest is done manually, selecting the clusters that are at their optimal point of ripeness. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak tanks for 15 days at a maximum temperature of 32º C. Once finished, malolactic fermentation takes place in oak vats. It remains in these vats for a whole year in order to clarify and rest the wine. Vega Sicilia Único is aged for at least 7 years in French oak barrels made in the winery's cooperage. It starts in new barrels and turns to a more used barrel with the intention of achieving a perfect balance between wine and wood. Once bottled, Vega Sicilia Único still rests in the bottle for 3 more years before entering the market.
