Oblong small quarto: with text in both Dutch and French, and complete with 71 plates, including the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam, a plan of the city and 69 superb engravings of buildings and scenes. The plates are numbered 1 to 71. An exceptionally rare and complete panorama. Only three European copies are listed on WorldCat and none in the US. Hieronymus Sweerts (? 1629 – 1696 ) was a seventeenth-century poet and bookseller in Amsterdam. He also published under the pseudonym Jeroen Jeroense or Hippolytus de Vrye. His name is also spelled Zweerts. He is cited often in Simon Schama's The Embarrassment of Riches: An Interpretation of Dutch Culture in the Golden Age (1988); see also John Landwehr, Emblem and Fable Books Printed in the Low Countries (1988), page 265.
