History: The locomotives of the construction series 10 were built after the second World War as a unit locomotive and were intended as successor of the construction series 01 and 01.10. After the 2nd World War, a new locomotive of the construction series 10 was developed as a successor of the construction series 01 and 01.10. 2 Locomotives were built by Krupp which were delivered to the DB in 1957. However, the locomotives came too late to be further developed into a large and significant series and were soon removed. The series was streamlined, but the drivetrain was kept clear to prevent overheating. The locomotives reached a speed of 140 km/hour. Locomotive with running number 10 001 was originally a coal-fired steam locomotive while the 10 002 was fired with fuel oil. Later, the 10 001 was likewise converted to an oil fuel unit. The locomotives had a high axle load of the driving wheels of 22.4 tons, limiting the deployment area to routes that were suitable for this. The services of the construction series 10 were quickly taken over by the steam locomotives of the series 01.10 and the diesel hydraulic locomotives of the series V200.
