HISTORY OF THE MODEL :
The very 1st official Rolex dealership in Singapore Was— "GAMMETER & Co" situated at 16 Collier Quay opposite Clifford Pier, set up in 1936 and lasted till 50s. Company was started by Swiss national Ernest Otto GAMMETER.

Rolex watches sold in Singapore pre 1936 came via Robinson’s & John Little’s etc but were less prolific in terms of the co-branding & double signatures on their dials but GAMMETERS did not hold back. Ernest Gammeter also had a Rolex trained technician seconded in from Switzerland to work on the Rolex Watch repairs here.
The origins of Gammeter & Co. of Singapore goes back to British Calcutta, where the Swiss émigré Ernst Otto Gammeter co-established the Anglo-Swiss Watch Co. in 1908. Business flourished throughout the following decade and in 1921 the decision was made to set up a branch in the fledgling city of Singapore.

The early years were hard on Gammeter. Affluent patrons were few and hesitant and they even fell victim to a burglary. But things changed by the 1930s. There was an endorsement in The Straits Times which helped stir up some interest followed by winning an exclusive Rolex dealership in 1936.

Apart from RWC brands, the company also sold pieces under the Gammeter label, and fellow Swiss brands like Omega. But what’s of most interest to me are their Rolex double signs with the signature oblique sans-serif font.
By 1960, Mr. Gammeter was back in Switzerland and the operation unfortunately ceased to exist. But the Anglo-Swiss Watch Co. lives on.
