Item Description:
This is an exquisite wakizashi, a traditional Japanese short sword, featuring the mei (signature) "Kunitomo" (國友) engraved on its nakago (tang). The blade is believed to originate from the Edo period, showcasing the timeless craftsmanship of the Kunitomo lineage, famed for their exceptional swords and firearms. The sword is accompanied by its stunning koshirae (mounts), including a scabbard with a distinctive orange-speckled lacquer finish, paired with a sageo (cord) in a warm golden hue.
The tsuka (handle) is expertly wrapped in dark green silk ito (cord) over rayskin, and features intricately crafted menuki (ornaments) with floral motifs. The fittings, including the fuchi, kashira, and tsuba, display detailed engravings with naturalistic designs, reflecting the refined aesthetic sensibilities of the Edo period. The blade itself is of shinogi-zukuri construction, with precise lines and an elegant curvature, making it both a functional weapon and a valuable collector's piece.
This wakizashi comes with an official Japanese sword registration card, affirming its authenticity and historical significance.
The registration certificate cannot be included as it must be returned to the country. Thank you for your understanding.
