This exquisite 20th-century set includes a beautifully crafted maki-e writing box (suzuribako) with its original wooden box, complete with inkstone and water dropper, paired with a matching maki-e desk. The intricate designs on both the writing box and the desk are harmonious, featuring a landscape motif that tells a serene story of nature's beauty.

Set against a shimmering nashiji background, the maki-e depicts a peaceful rural scene with mountains, pine trees, river, bridge, and traditional houses. Birds soar gracefully in the sky, symbolizing freedom and the passage of time. The design captures the essence of Japan's natural landscapes, blending elements of tranquility, longevity, and the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

This set, though showing signs of age and use, remains a captivating work of art. The writing box has cracks on the corners and inside edge, with minor chips on the lid and edges. Some areas have been partially repaired. The water dropper exhibits verdigris, and the desk has a noticeable chip on its left edge.
