It has only been a few decades since we were able to precisely date these bronzes.

The existing stylistic and iconographic analyzes were supplemented by excavation campaigns carried out in western asia between 1965 and 1979 by the University of Gent and the Royal Museums of Brussels.

These made it possible to locate a large number of collective tombs filled with objects. Thanks to the intact stratigraphy of the surroundings, it is now possible to date them. By referring to these studies, archaeologists can more accurately calculate the date of manufacture of the bronze sculptures: between the 11th century and the middle of the 7th century before our era, i.e. at the end of the Iron Age .

A SUMPTUOUS BESTIARY

The vast multitude of artifacts found in western Asia fall into three main categories: pavilions (or finials), ironwork from horse tack, and brooches. We also discovered different types of bronze pieces (daggers, spears and axes, among others) but not in the same proportions.

The finials are objects that were placed on top of sticks. It is their sophisticated iconography, inspired by wildlife and more particularly by ibexes, that makes them so unique. The "Master of Animals" is one of the best known and most fascinating versions. This motif represents a human figure holding wild animals by the neck (usually a man, although some are in the likeness of women).
