The piece comes with a book “(O)”. Together they are an artistic exploration of porcelain slip-casting that challenges traditional methods by embracing unpredictability and creative freedom. The artist's approach reimagines slip-casting by incorporating movement as part of the process and allows the material to dictate the final form, resulting in pieces that are both performative and sculptural. Porcelain, with its inherent memory and unpredictability, becomes a partner in the creation process, reflecting unique moments of time and emotion through an intricate ripple texture. (O) underscores the beauty of temporality, change, and collaboration between artist and material, aiming to liberate both from standardized expectations while opening new creative possibilities.

This process, performed as a live composition, results in multifunctional objects that transcend aesthetic purpose, evolving into both philosophical expressions and in some cases musical instruments. Soaring through the shell of its walls, once held in the palm and tapped by a finger or mallet, causes a tone of its own unique and specific soothing vibration - a sound of a shape which reflects moments of time.

Material - porcelain clay type of : dries fast + sensitive to ‘disturbance’
Form - sphere shaped mould (O) : fundamental shape + uniform + no stress points
Colour - true blue pigment addition : represents flow + visual language (Delft Blue)
Mixing - uneven combining without mixing : irregular distribution effectively visualizes flow
Casting - slow and not filled whole : leave space for exploration + encourages flow
Setting - movement during setting : represents consciousness + prints the moment
Detailing - stamped : date and time of creation = birth certificate
Shaping - cleaning process during dry stage : shape left as is + no smudging + no modification
Firing - 1300°C - 1400°C : to achieve vitrification* + no glazing

The object is on display at the Graduation Show during Dutch Design Week (19.10.2024 -27.10.2024) feel free to come and see :)
