2021 Donatsch, Pinot Noir Unique - Malans - 1 Pullo (0.75L)

The Unique series from Donatsch has become a cult in Switzerland, and is almost impossible to find due to the limited quantities. These extremely rare wines fetch top prices at auctions and can only be found at the finest establishments. We are fortunate that, as the importer for Germany, we receive a relatively good allocation—something many Swiss retailers can only dream of. As the name suggests, "Unique" is always a truly unique wine—the best of the best, a selection from the oldest vines in top-tier vineyards. It is always aged 100% in new barrique.

The 2021 Unique is unmatched in finesse, as even the nose reveals. Cool, elegantly transparent cherry fruit on a chalky base, with delicate hints of dark chocolate, licorice, subtle notes of smoky wood, and black pepper. On the palate, it flows with fine sweetness. Rich fruit of raspberry, a touch of plum, and mulberry blend with a finely polished tannin structure to form an incredibly harmonious unity. Ripe acidity runs along the edges of the tongue, accompanied by a wave of chalky, salty, gripping minerality. The wine is carried into a tremendous length, gripping and vibrant. Wow, what a sensation! A Burgundy-style wine that combines power and finesse, shining with fresh fruit. From the first sip, you can feel that only the finest quality and best grape material have gone into this wine. A wine that represents the Graubünden terroir like few others. For me, one of the most exciting and perfect Pinot Noirs I've ever had from Switzerland. An absolutely great Pinot of Grand Cru caliber, made for a long life.


-- Parker: Entirely from Malans, the 2021 Pinot Noir Malans Unique opens with a deep, pure, intense and spicy yet also delicate and harmonious, finely aromatic and toasty bouquet of red and dark forest berries and cherries. Aged for 12 months in entirely new Burgundian pièces, this is a dense, round and juicy, very elegant and refined Pinot with delicate tannins and intense, remarkably energetic or mineral vitality. The saline and fine finish is dense, intense and juicy, even quite powerful but also firmly structured with crunchy tannins and very fine, crystalline acidity. The aftertaste is fresh and aromatic, with red berry and cherry flavors again and this lovely stimulating bite of the tannins. Tasted as a tank sample at the domaine in Malans and again a day later at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in February 2023. 94-96/100
