Christmas marks the beginning of a new calendar year.
Christmas is one of the biggest Christian holidays. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on it. According to Luke's Gospel, this happened in Bethlehem, a city in Herod the Great's restored Judean kingdom under Roman tutelage. It is observed on December 25 (in the Gregorian and New Julian calendars), January 6 by the Armenian Church, and January 7 by the official civil calendar, which day corresponds to December 25 in the Julian calendar.
According to Luke, after the so-called period of purification of the mother in labor had passed, Jesus was taken by his parents to Jerusalem to be presented to Jehovah in the Second Temple and to perform the traditional bird sacrifices. There was a righteous man named Simeon, to whom the Holy Spirit had promised that he would not die until he saw Christ, and who rejoiced greatly when he saw him. Besides him, the child was announced and praised in the crowd by the aged prophetess Anna, daughter of Fanuilova, who was also expecting him. This is what the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord is for. Then Joseph, Mary, together with Jesus returned to Nazareth, but regularly came to the capital for the Passover.
