In 1988, coins were issued from the metal of the Soviet medium-range R-12 missiles destroyed under the Soviet-American treaty and presented to various politicians. One of them was received by American President George Bush Sr. as a sign of reconciliation after the end of the Cold War, and their owners included: Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev (who signed the decree on disarmament), the mayors of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and some others. In the same year, it was decided to issue a large print run of such coins for collectors from different countries. The proceeds from the sale went to various charitable causes to improve the environmental situation.

The obverse depicts the emblem of the Soviet Peace Committee: in the center there is an outline of a bell over a stylized globe, along the rim there is an inscription (at the top - "SOVIET PEACE COMMITTEE", at the bottom in English - "SOVIET PEACE COMMITTEE").

On the reverse in the middle there is a symbolic denomination: a large number "1", at the top right in two lines - "DISARMAMENT RUBLE", at the bottom right (under the horizontal olive branch) in English in two lines - "DISARMAMENT DOLLAR". Below is the year of minting - "1988". At the top along the edge there is a semicircular inscription - "ACCEPTABLE AS A SIGN OF FRIENDSHIP", and below, also in a semicircle, but in a smaller font - "MADE OF ROCKET METAL". At the bottom, in a semicircle, there is an inscription in English in two lines: in small print - "MADE OF MISSILE METAL", below in large print - "ACCEPTED AS A TOKEN OF FRIENDSHIP".

The coin comes with a certificate in Russian and English confirming that it was made from a destroyed nuclear missile and that the metal is not hazardous to health.
