Simone Post unique piece Marshmallow Teapot

The teapot set was specially made for Milan Design Week 2024 and has been exhibited there. The teapot is inspired by a design icon, Alessi whistling kettle.

The teapot set is made by a circular production process developed by Studio Lotte Douwes. This is a unique process in the world of ceramics production. It uses their own production waste. The material uses recycled clay that gives the porcelain its colour. The glaze is also part of the circular production process.

As a child, Simone had the Alessi whistling kettle at home. From childhood, she always considered this a wondrous object.

What Simone admires about the Alessi teapot is that besides its playfulness, there is also a kind of honesty in its use of materials. The base, the high-gloss stainless steel body, is the colour of the material itself, while the knobs, handles and spout stand out because of their use of colour. This is why, in Simone’s Marshmallow Teapot, she chose to let the colour of the clay itself be visible in the base, and precisely the handles and knobs stand out through colour.

The shape of the teapot is inspired by the teapot that Simone made uit of Marshmallows for the window display for Hermès, were she made a whole setting out of candy’s.

About Post
Simone Post (*1990, Utrecht, the Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary maker with roots in textiles, based in Rotterdam. Growing up, she was surrounded by sewing machines to play around with as her mother conducted sewing classes at home. She graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with honors in 2015. Simone’s atelier serves as a sanctuary for experimentation and creation with textiles as her ultimate muse.

This can find its materialisation in various outcomes, such as refurbished and ‘reupholstered’ knob chairs, alienating soft cabinets, pleated ceramics or marshmallow twisted window frames. Post’s work delves deep into color, texture, and print. Her works breath colour and optimism but at the same time are always asking substantive questions. Her work is a testament to the potential of materials, demonstrating that with dedication, craftsmanship, and a sense of wonder, it’s possible to turn seemingly ordinary materials into something extraordinary.

She has a portfolio of projects, collaborating with esteemed companies such as Vlisco, Kvadrat, Adidas, and Hermès, yet she is ultimately driven by a profound inner compulsion to create her own highly coveted objects
Her work has been exhibited worldwide from Brasil, China, Italy, India, US, Europe and has been acquired by multiple museums, including the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, the Centraal Museum Utrecht, MAD Paris and the Cooper Hewitt, New York

Bedankt voor het eigenzinnige kunstwerk! Het doet me denken aan de figuren van James Ensor of Karel Appel. Grimmig vrolijk.
