Romero, Enric Badia - 2 Alkuperäinen nauha - Modesty Blaise - Modesty is the Fairy Queen in The Wicked Gnomes - 1973

Two signed sequential Modesty Blaise strips drawn by Romero in 1973 for the story ‘The Wicked Gnomes’.

Romero, known for his amazing character AXA and also for his many beautifully drawn heroines in various comics and annuals, certainly had fun dressing Modesty up in this story as the Fairy Queen.

The strip shows Modesty and her second in command Willie Garvin dressed as a gnome, awaiting a meeting in a secret hideout.

The strip numbers are #3149 & #3150
I am offering these in the same Lot as it is rare to find sequential strips of Romero’s Modesty artworks, and I feel it would be a real shame to split them up.

Both strips are signed by Romero in the final panel of the strips, the signature on strip #3149 is in the top right hand side and has been partially obscured by the strip number and some white out by the publisher.

The reverse of strip #3150 has the original published newspaper print pasted on and is date stamped ‘Received 6 AUG 1973’. Both strips have a small pencil signature from the publisher on the reverse.

These are very nicely inked strip showing Romero’s fantastic style for atmosphere, fashion, backgrounds and characters, these display a splendid array of inking styles.

Modesty Blaise was written by Peter O’Donnell and artists Jim Holdaway, Enric Badia Romero, John M Burns, Patrick Wright and Neville Colvin all worked on the artwork for the newspaper strips.
