[The Fontagard is a cognac that has had non-traditional aging, in a Bourbon cask instead of Limousin or Tronçais wood. Due to BNIC regulations, it can't be called proper cognac any more. Hence the producers went for 'cognac-based spirit'. - ES]

From the vineyards of the Ile de Ré, the most westerly in the AOC, these single growth Cognacs develop unusual aromas and flavours thanks to the unique climate on the island. The iodine-laden air gives a natural, salty tang, resulting in a dry Cognac but with fruity notes.

The range, aimed at both Cognac lovers and single malt whisky aficionados, is described as a perfect accompaniment to seafood.

Camus Ile de Ré Fine Island Cognac is the youngest Cognac in the range, with fresh marine notes on the nose, a delicately oaked palate with hints of dried fruit, and a hint of saltiness in the smooth finish.

Camus Ile de Ré Fine Island Cognac Double Matured has a unique ageing process, said to be unknown in the world of Cognac. After a first ageing in warehouses on the Ile de Ré, it receives a second maturation in old red barrels, which have undergone a toasting process.

Neat, it reveals toasted notes, with as little barrel oak as possible, culminating in a smooth and rich finish that is said to have a perfect balance between crystallised fruit flavours and a subtle hint of smoke. Ice, or a dash of still water, will further develop the toasty and marine characteristics.
