A special and very rare sample of calcite!! A large druse covered with columnar calcite concretions and with a rounded tip. The color varies from light yellow to darker ochre. They are partially covered by a very thin layer of white calcite that becomes light yellow under long-wave UV light. The peculiarity of this sample, however, can be seen from the back. The columns are almost all hollow and you can still see several hollow and smaller tubular concretions, around which calcite stalactites have developed. They are the remains of the vegetation of a kind of swamp: reeds and stems of rushes! These particular samples were formed in an environment of thermal waters: the deposit is very close to the Rapolano spa. For some years it has not been possible to do research because the site has been reclaimed covering it with building debris.
