A very attractive, early 20th century, carved Oak Box Settle or Hall Seat, of exceptional quality and condition. This fabulous carved Oak Seat in Baroque style, it dates from the early 1900’s and is a rich medium-dark oak in colour.
The Bench has attractive oakwood graining throughout and would sit nicely with other matching items of carved oak furniture, or separately as a Hall Bench. The settle has a very attractive panelled back beneath a decorative beaded and moulded top rail featuring a classic coquille.
The inset panels all have decorative beaded borders and swirl-leaf motif carving, above a three contrasting rectangular details, a classic motif mirrored by the seat-panel and frontmost oak panel.
There are two sturdy armrest supports, either side of the bench section, both with attractive 'Barley Twist' uprights. The bench has a lift-up hinged seat, which has a moulded front edge and provides useful hidden storage space. The storage compartment has three fitted, inset oak panels to the front, which have matching beaded 'Picture Framed' Borders.
The settle has inset Oak side panels, and it stands on attractive turned Oak ‘Bun’ feet, with an additional 'Inverse Crown' frieze at the base for added decoration.
