A novelised study on the lives of those less fortunate living in London, an interesting look at social conditions in the mid-Victorian era.
Parts of this work were written at the behest of the author's brother, the important social reformer Henry Mayhew
Augustus Mayhew was a jounalist, and often wrote in collaboration with his brother Henry.
In the original green blindstamped publisher's cloth with gold lettering and decoration on the spine (the same as the first impression).
Book in good condition.
