Stone Scarab Amulet
Style of 664-332 BC
This stone scarab amulet presents a finely crafted representation of a dung beetle with a flat underside adorned with carved hieroglyphs. The amulet is longitudinally perforated, allowing for suspension.
In the symbolic realm of ancient Egypt, the scarab served as a potent emblem of regeneration, protection, and divine transformation. The beetle's association with the sun god Ra emphasized themes of creation and rebirth, aligning the scarab with the daily journey of the sun across the sky. Egyptians believed that the scarab beetle, which often encountered rolling balls of dung, mirrored the sun's continuous renewal and, by extension, the cyclical nature of life and death.
