At first, she studied painting under 牧田水石 Hirata Suiseki (1796-1869), later studied Ming and Qing painting in Edo, and became a private admirer of Zheng Banqiao (Zheng Xie). She painted with a manly and vigorous style, and her popularity was split in two with 安田老山 Yasuda Rozan (1830-1883) at the time of the popularity of literati painting in the early Meiji period.
