Jaguar 420G
On 20/05/1970, this Jaguar 420G was delivered to a Dutch buyer, one of the few originally Dutch delivered 420Gs that is still out there.
This 1st owner had this Jaguar in his possession until 06/10/1983. It was then bought by a restaurant owner from Dordrecht, who sporadically used it for outings, but it mainly stayed in the garage.
This 2nd owner did have it in his possession for quite some time, until 23/04/2005. On that day, a nice turn of events happened.
The last owner found this Jaguar by coincidence. After many trips with a nice youngtimer, he was looking for a real classic, one that relaxes you and lets you enjoy the old technology: a classic Jaguar would be a nice option. In a pub, he met some people who knew about such a car: there was a restaurant owner who had a nice one in his garage. They wrote his telephone number on a beer mat, and an appointment was made.
After a wonderful dinner at the local restaurant, I viewed the Jaguar in the garage, and decided to buy it.
After having purchased it, in 2005, I had the engine block revised, which the Jaguar needed after 35 years.
It is in good condition as it is, with patina. The car is alive, not worn out, but used for what it was once conceived: wonderful silky smooth cruising. The body and paint are in good, used condition with signs of age and use that match the car's age.
The leather interior has a lot of patina: the leather front seats were restored using old leather from an old sofa set, which fits perfectly in terms of colours, authenticity and even the typical smell.
The Jaguar has been used relatively little in recent years, which is why the car is being sold again. It passed the APK without much trouble and is now APK free. It would however be wise to give it a good service (oil, spark plugs, brakes, etc.) so that it is fit again for many driving many kilometres with.
Matters that still need to be addressed:
- It leaks oil at the bottom of the engine block (engine does run well).
- The doors are developing some corrosion at the bottom, from the outside this is not
visible.
- In a few places, the paint has sustained some minor scratches and dents
The car can be viewed in Marum, the Netherlands.
