Silver pendant enclosing an authentic ancient Roman coin. The sterling silver frame (marked 925) is custom-made to the coin and if preferred can be removed.
Coin: Æ Antoninianus, Emperor Probus
Obverse: IMP PROBVS P F AVG, radiate, helmeted, cuirassed bust left holding spear and shield.
Reverse: SALVS AVG, Salus standing right feeding serpent in her arms, VII (officina) to right.
Mintmark XXI.
Ref: Cohen 575.
Diameter pendant: ± 23,5 mm
Condition: EF, attractive olive-green patina, set in modern custom-made sterling silver pendant. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.

PROBUS: Roman Emperor from 276-282 AD. Under his reign the Roman armies successfully defeated the Germanic invaders in Gaul and put down a rebellion in Britain.
He encouraged the planting of vineyards in Gaul, Spain, and Britain and was evidently killed by troops who resented his discipline and being set to agricultural work.
SALVS AVG: Salus Augusti or Augusta: Dedicated to the health of the Emperor or Empress.
Salus: goddess of safety, health and prosperity is one of the oldest Roman goddesses. Every year on August 5 the ceremony of the Augurium Salutis was held for the preservation of the Roman state.
