Books in good condition - Clean bright contents -Firm bindings - Professionally re-bound. There are nummerous pencilled comments within the books, made by a previous owner of the book. In total 445 full-page beautifull handcoloured plates, each with accompanaying pages of text in German describing the contents of each plate - A very rare and nice collecter's item. Johannes Hegetschweiler (1789-1839) settlet down as a doctor in Stäfa on Lake Zurich after studying medicine in Zurich and Tübingen. He conducted intensive botanical studies and was in contact with domestic and foreign scholars, including Oswald Heer, who later completed Hegetschweiler's Flora der Schweiz (1840). Sent to the Grand Council in 1831, Hegetschweiler became a councilor. As head of the health system, he was involved in drawing up e new medical constitution. When Johannes Hegetschweiler stepped in front of the crowd to mediate at the "Zuriputsch", he was fatally shot in the head and died three days later on september 9. Especially the plant pictures from Labram, (1785-1852) -he colored the plates with his daughter- are extremely faithful, especially the plant pictures reproduce the habitus and the characteristic details of the originals with unsurpassable centainly and are masterpieces of their kind! Complete and rather scarce set but in simple binding -so low priced.... ( NB. A few corresponding sets in nice bindings on internet offered for ca. € 2000,-) Weight ca. 2 kg.
