Olympic baseball ONE DOLLAR 1992
Although likely invented in 18th century Britain, it was in the United States that the sport of baseball was formally organized and structured. The first championships saw the light of day in 1857-1858, professionalism was authorized in 1869 and the National League was created in 1876. Since 1903, the October World Series has pitted the winners of the two leagues against each other to form Major League Baseball (MLB).
The International Baseball Federation, founded in 1938, recognizes 112 national federations. It organizes the Baseball World Cup. Baseball became an Olympic sport in 1992 (Barcelona Summer Olympics).
Olympic Games ONE DOLLAR 1988
The 1988 Summer Olympics were held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. This coin was issued to mark the United States' participation in the Games. On the face, the Olympic flame mingles with the torch of the Statue of Liberty.
The 24th Summer Olympic Games, which opened on September 17, attracted 8,391 athletes from 160 countries. The motto of the Games was "Harmony and Progress".
These were the last Games to be held under East-West opposition, and the harmony was remarkable. The closing ceremony took place on October 2, 1988. In the medal table, the USA finished third, behind the Soviet Union and East Germany.
Olympic Games ONE DOLLAR 1983
This coin is the first commemorative silver dollar issued by the United States since 1900. While the minting of such coins had previously been irregular, this 1983 coin on the nearby Los Angeles Olympic Games would be the first in a continuing series of commemorative issues.
These issues are intended to commemorate, in anniversary years, events, people or other important aspects of the rich history of the United States.
In addition to the name of the country and the indication of the value, all these coins bear the famous American mottos "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum", as well as, very often, the term "Liberty".
All coins are silver (900/1000) and respectively 27g
