The distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson and produces pure malt whisky. The deer shown on the label was the original emblem of the Mackenzies, who owned the distillery from 1886. There are interesting copper cooling jackets on this distillery dating from 1874 which are still in use today. Most of the production ends up in Whyte & Mackay's blended whiskies. This 10cl decanter of hand-blown Portuguese glass was produced in a limited edition only of 50. The blend contains whiskies up to 140 years old in a dark mahogany colour, light and elegant, smelling of Old English marmalade, Christmas pudding and English fruitcake. On the palate it develops flavours and aromas reminiscent of dark chocolate, orange peel, liquorice, cinnamon and ground almonds. This whisky is an absolute rarity, with the entire production already sold out before bottling. It is available in luxury gift packaging and an elegant crystal decanter.
