SKINTERIOR is my farewell love letter to anorexia, the eating disorder I struggled with until my final year at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
This 2007 graduation project is an experimental research on the beauty of imperfection. Melting plastics in a textile mould, left me with less than a minute to shape the object before it hardened, elegantly setting into its upholstered inevitable form. This process resulted in a collection of nine perfectly imperfect stools.
The object presented here is prototype number 2.
This early piece is not strong enough to sit on.
After graduating cum laude from the academy, SKINTERIOR was nominated for both the René Smeets Award and the Melkweg Prize for the most professional and authentic graduation project. Additionally, it received a nomination for the International Design Education Award for best graduation project.
