There, the unlikely combination of several geological factors made possible the occurrence of a wide variety of finely crystallized mineral species, to such and extent that this deposit set the highest international standards for several species over the second half of the last century. Among these, dioptase is among the greatest classics, as Tsumeb is ranked among the most iconic localities for this species! Here is a beautiful miniature of dioptase from Tsumeb showing lustrous, gem, vivid green crystals of the highest quality (focal crystal 0.6 cm long) in combination with transparent calcite and what is probably a chrysocolla crust coating first generation calcites.
