A striking suiseki 水石 (scholar’s stone) crafted from 'nishiki'ishi' jasper. This naturalistic stone has a unique shape, resembling the head of a horse or water buffalo. What makes this piece truly special is the matrix that encircles the stone, forming a continuous field of asters 野菊 (nogiku) in various shades of grey, white, and brown. This distinctive feature classifies the stone into its own sub-genre, known as ‘nogikuseki’ 野菊石.
It has a polished smooth surface and is placed on a custom made black wooden base 台座 (daiza).

Height 28.5 cm, Width 53 cm, Depth 15 cm.
Weight 17.0 kg.
Period: Japan – Shôwa period (1926-1989).
