Founded in Glasgow beside the Forth Clyde Canal in 1811-13, Port Dundas soon became a leading grain distillery and was the first stop on whisky chronicler Alfred Barnard's epic 1886-87 journey around The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom. Its 454ft (138m) chimney, for two centuries a local landmark, was once the tallest in the world.
This golden grain whisky from refill American oak casks is the oldest ever Special Release.
Astonishingly rich and complex, it has aromas of rich butterscotch and fruit salad in syrup, backed by classic notes of vanilla toffee and fresh-planed oak.
The texture is creamy-smooth, the flavours honey-sweet, fruity and spicy, with a long, warming finish.
Port Dundas 52 Years Old Diageo Special Releases 2017 is a rare single grain whisky from the now closed Port Dundas distillery. The whisky was distilled in 1964 and matured for over half a century in refill American oak hogsheads. It was bottled in 2017 at a natural cask strength of 44.6%. Port Dundas was founded in 1811 in Glasgow. At its height, it was the largest distillery in the country—known as the ‘blending powerhouse of Scotland’. The distillery closed in 2010 after Diageo decided to consolidate its grain whisky production at Cameronbridge. Port Dundas 52 Years Old Diageo Special Releases 2017 saw a limited release of 752 bottles.
