Takashi Murakami is at the forefront of contemporary art, and this is the exhibition catalogue for his first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan in eight years, and the first outside Tokyo, entitled Takashi Murakami Mononoke Kyoto (Venue: Kyocera Museum of Art, Kyoto). Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) has questioned the value and essential meaning of art through quotations from and collaborations with popular culture such as manga and anime. Internationally acclaimed, Takashi Murakami's work is held in collections in museums around the world and he has been selected for the ‘Power 100’ (the 100 most influential people in the art world) in the history of Art Review for 10 consecutive years.
The commentary on the works has been written especially for this publication in Takashi Murakami's own words, and also introduces many of the artworks that inspired the creation of the works. The book has also been greatly enhanced with an appendix of the Takashi Murakami Mononoke Kyoto Collectible Trading Card (Catalogue Version Trekker), exclusive to this exhibition catalogue, as well as an increase in the number of pages. The catalogue is also available in both Japanese and English.
