Scuola italiana (XVII) - Sant'Antonio da Padova col Bambino

St. Anthony of Padua with Child", Italian school of the mid-1600s, oil on canvas, measures 76x70cm with frame, 70x64cm canvas alone. 19th century gold leaf wooden frame. Inside an oval, Saint Anthony of Padua with the Baby Jesus. The Saint with the typical Franciscan habit, the hair with the typical monastic tonsure and the halo, bows his head touching that of the little Christ. The Franciscan's folded hands rest on a table with a red tablecloth which, placed in the foreground, breaks through the spatiality dictated by the oval. Christ placed in front and with his torso slightly twisted turns his head towards the Saint, affectionately stroking his chin with one hand and holding the lily, a typical attribute of Saint Anthony, in the other. Maniera and craquelle date the work to the mid-17th century, a work of the Italian school probably attributable to northern Italy. Wooden frame not contemporary with the work, dating back to the mid-19th century in real gold leaf as evidenced by the presence of the orange shade of the bole below (see photo of the detail). On the reverse, the painting is relined and relined on reinforcing canvas following a professional restoration in the 20th century.

CONDITION REPORT

Excellent general condition. The painting appears intact in every single part and without any loss of color, the craquellure appears healthy and homogeneous, consistent with the dating of the work. The conservation of the frame is also very good, with intact gold leaf and no defects. At times the typical orange shade of the bole below appears, evidence of the age and good workmanship,

Tracked and insured shipping with adequate packaging.
