Cuban mahogany veneer and oak commode from circa 1800. This is a rare piece.. Beautiful, period piece of furniture with a warm color. Flanked by curved scroll wooden pillars, which stand on block feet (beginning of the empire period?). The commode is crowned with a Saint Anne marble top. Behind the two doors; one shelf. The marble top i think is a replacement. Underneath the top are four brass rollers, i think for use of a former brushing slide? Either side of the commode are two flanking small brushing slides, which open by pulling a small knob on both sides. Please see the photographs of the area under the marble top. I have taken photos of the the drawers and the carcass so you can see their age of comstruction and the methods of imsertion. The commode has obvious marks and scratches but it is very old! There are numerous shrinkage cracks. The veneer, drawers, feet, escutcheons and planks etc. All indicate an old and quite a special piece. Very heavy, two people need to move it.
