Cuenco para comida (95 cm) Siassi - Papúa Nueva Guinea (Sin Precio de Reserva)

Siassi bowls are renowned for their aesthetic qualities. They are typically oval or circular in shape, with smooth, polished surfaces that highlight the natural grain of the wood. Some bowls are plain, while others are adorned with intricate carvings. These carvings can include representations of local fauna, such as birds and fish, or geometric patterns that hold symbolic meaning within the local culture. The Siassi people were part of a vast trade network that connected various groups across the region, including the Tolai people of New Britain, the people of the Huon Peninsula, and other communities along the Papua New Guinean coast. The Siassi Islanders would exchange their bowls, along with other goods like pottery, shells, and carved wooden items, for food, stone tools, and other necessities. The bowls were especially valued for their craftsmanship and often featured intricate carvings and decorations, including abstract patterns and animal motifs. We pack securely sending worldwide Sold by Koos Knol, ethnographer and anthropologist, dealer of Papua Tribal Art for more than 30 years, expert and author of the book “Papua Blues”, written in Dutch.
